A “yard of mulch” refers to a cubic yard (3' x 3' x 3' of mulch). In general, use the following formula to determine how much mulch is needed for a specific area:

1. Multiply the square footage of the area by the desired depth of mulch in inches (3 inches is about average).
2. Divide that number by 324 for the amount in cubic yards.
